METHODOLOGY & CONTEXT

The Palestinian-led BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement issues targeted calls against corporations materially complicit in Israel's regime of military occupation, settler-colonialism, and apartheid. This tool visualizes how thoroughly those targets are woven into the most widely held passive investment vehicles — revealing how ordinary savings, retirement accounts, and pension funds become unwitting conduits of complicity.

DATA SCOPE

Companies are flagged as BDS targets based on the Palestinian-led BDS movement's targeted call list — covering direct military suppliers, settlement infrastructure, financial underwriting, and complicit brands. We intentionally do not rank or grade severity.

We have intentionally omitted fluctuating financial metrics like market cap and exact portfolio weights to focus purely on the static presence of complicity.

THE "ETHICAL" INVESTING TRAP

Halal/Sharia ETFs: While these filter out traditional banks (riba) and weapons manufacturers, they do not screen out tech companies. They hold Google and Amazon — the very corporations building Project Nimbus, Israel's AI surveillance apparatus.

ESG ETFs: Despite claiming "Social" responsibility, ESG frameworks routinely ignore Palestinian rights. ESG funds hold banks financing settlements, tech enabling apartheid, and companies operating on stolen land.

WHY IT MATTERS

Passive index investing means your money is allocated automatically according to market capitalization — no human reviews what you actually own. The result: the vast majority of mainstream ETFs hold at least one company actively involved in the occupation.

Divestment is not symbolic. Capital withdrawal forces corporate behavior change — as it did against South African apartheid in the 1980s.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Audit your portfolio. Move retirement funds to screened alternatives that explicitly exclude occupation profiteers. Pressure your employer's 401(k) provider. Organize within your city, union, university endowment, church, temple, synagogue, or mosque.
